NBC News Education Nation brought together students and community members who are invested in their achievement for a robust discussion Wednesday evening on the issues facing young adults after high school and solutions to ensure their success.
Produced in partnership with NBC Boston and necn, the town hall featured topics ranging from college access and equity to skills all young adults need now and for the future.
The two-hour event was held at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston. It was moderated by NBC News Chief Education Correspondent Rehema Ellis and included six panel topics, with each featuring multiple panelists from a variety of perspectives.
Among the panelists were Boston Public Schools Superintendent Tommy Chang; Dr. Lindsa McIntyre, headmaster of Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Dorchester; National Teacher of the Year Sydney Chafee of Codman Academy Charter Public School in Dorchester; and Alexandra Oliver-Davila, executive director of Sociedad Latina of Roxbury.
Questions from audience members at the town hall and online were integrated throughout the program. While the event took place in Boston, the discussion and topics are relevant to a national audience, as the event aims to inspire youth and adults across the country to both become mentors and support students on their path to success.
