New Tea Lounge Set to Open at Boston Public Library

Books and booze? The Boston Public Library thinks it will be a hit.

The Map Room café at the Boston Public Library is being revamped as a tea lounge and will kick off its soft opening Wednesday in Copley Square.

The new tea lounge comes complete with bar seating offering specialty drinks and cocktails, snacks and desserts. Soups and salads will also be served.

The library food service's marketing coordinator, Ryan Clarke, told The Boston Globe that small items, such as signs and lighting, are constantly being added. So although the lounge is fully functional, the official grand opening won’t take place until late May.

Clarke also mentioned organizers are still not sure how busy the room will get, but the interest has been great. The bar stools are first-come, first-served, while tabletop seating is open for reservations, which can be made here.

The lounge will be open from 3 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Sundays, according to its website.
