Ex-Chiefs Defensive End Visiting Patriots Thursday

[NBC Sports] NFL Rumors: Ex-Chiefs defensive end Allen Bailey visiting Patriots

The New England Patriots didn't make any big splashes Wednesday, but they're staying plenty busy.

The Patriots will host free agent defensive end Allen Bailey for a visit Thursday, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported Thursday morning.

Bailey, 29, has spent his entire eight-year NFL career to date with the Kansas City Chiefs. He's posted just 19.5 sacks in that span, but six of those came last season in a career year for the 6-foot-3, 288-pound defensive end.

Bailey also was on the field for 80 percent of the Chiefs' defensive snaps in their AFC Championship Game loss to the Patriots in January.

Defensive end is an area of need for New England, which let Trey Flowers walk in free agency to sign with the Detroit Lions. The Patriots acquired Michael Bennett last Friday and reportedly re-signed John Simon to a two-year contract Wednesday but still could use more help rushing the passer.

Bailey made $5.4 million in base salary last season with an $8 million cap hit on the final year of a four-year, $25 million contract with Kansas City.
