‘Hard to Believe': NH Man Accused of Murdering Wife in Front of Children Held Without Bail

Officials say Emerson Jaques Figueiredo fatally stabbed his wife, Nathalia Da Paixao, in the parking lot of their Concord apartment complex

In Concord, New Hampshire, a mother is dead, her husband is behind bars for the murder, and the couple's two children witnessed the horrific crime.

“All day I felt like it was a dream,” said neighbor Chabbi Khanal, who saw the entire ordeal unfold. “When I went to sleep it was playing over and over again.”

Khanal says just before noon Sunday, he heard screaming, looked outside and saw a man stabbing a woman, and two children trying to stop it.

“After she got stabbed a few times, she was on the floor helpless, her kids were crying all over,” Khanal said.

Authorities say 42-year-old Emerson Jaques Figueiredo stabbed his 35-year-old wife several times in the parking lot of their Concord apartment complex.

Nathalia Da Paixao died at the hospital.

“There was a lot of cops,” said 13-year-old Dereck Duran Torres, who lives next door and is close friends with the children. “I talked to them today, they’re okay."

The 13-year-old boy's dad, Walter Duran, was friends with Figueiredo and says it's hard to believe.

“He was a good person, a good family,” Duran said.

They say Da Paixao will be remembered as a hard-working, loving mother of two and now their biggest concern is for her kids.

“Something like that they don’t have any parents now to depend on,” the teenager said. “I feel pretty sad.”

The kids are currently in foster care.

Figueiredo is charged with second degree murder and is being held without bail until his next court appearance.
