The man who was arrested in Massachusetts after leading officials on a manhunt following a fatal stabbing in New Hampshire appeared before a judge Monday.
Joseph King Hanright, 29, was captured in Methuen, Massachusetts, on Sunday after he was wanted for questioning in relation to the homicide of a 64-year-old man in Concord, New Hampshire.
Police began to search for Hanright on Saturday following the stabbing death of Marshall John Villeneuve, who was found in his Concord home on Friday. Officials said the defendant was seen fleeing from a stolen car Saturday in Methuen then later hiding in some bushes with a woman.
"Obviously we were alarmed. We have a pretty quiet neighborhood," neighbor Rob Parnell said. "We received a phone call that was very descriptive. Methuen Police has done an awesome job notifying everybody."
That woman was taken into custody, but Hanright fled the scene. He was arrested on Sunday.
Hanright faces charges that include being a fugitive from justice, using a stolen vehicle, interference with a police officer, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police and resisting arrest.
The suspect waived his extradition to New Hampshire and is being held without bail as a fugitive. He pleaded guilty to stolen vehicle charges in Lawrence District Court, bringing an end to a wild weekend in Methuen.
Hanright is expected to be transferred to New Hampshire before the end of the week.
