A Massachusetts man faced a judge Wednesday on numerous charges after police said he was involved in a domestic dispute with a woman earlier in the day on Interstate 95.

A woman is in the hospital with serious injuries after getting hit by a car during a domestic dispute in Canton, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The alleged domestic assault occurred around 10:25 p.m. Tuesday when a 28-year-old New Hampshire man and a 35-year-old New Hampshire woman were standing outside their Ford Focus in the breakdown lane on Interstate 95 northbound before the Interstate 93 exit.

At one point, the man got back into the car and began to drive, which is when he allegedly hit the woman, according to police. NBC10 Boston has not independently verified the incident.

Troopers from the State Police-Foxboro Barracks found the woman with serious though not life-threatening injuries on scene. She was taken to Boston Medical Center and is expected to be OK.

The man, later identified by police as Vincent Mott, was arrested by troopers and booked. He was arraigned Wednesday in Stoughton District Court on charges including assault and battery on a family or household member, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, violation of abuse prevention order, intimidation of a witness, second offense OUI-liquor, negligent operation of and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Oct. 30.

Prosecutors said the woman told police she got in a fight with the man while she was driving and that he hit her in the face, prompting her to pull into the breakdown lane. She said the man then chased her and grabbed her.

Eventually, she said the man jumped in the car, put it in reverse and ran over her, dragging her for over 35 feet.

Prosecutors said police smelled alcohol on Mott's breath and he failed a field sobriety test.

Mott allegedly told police that the woman was intoxicated and he got into the car and backed up while trying to pick her up. He said the two had been drinking at a casino prior to the incident.
