Police: ‘Grinch' Tried to Steal Christmas, But Caught by Alert Neighbor

Police in a Massachusetts town say they were able to stop a Christmas Grinch from getting away with stealing packages thanks to an alert neighbor.

Nakia Juwan Gunter, 43, of Norwood, faces multiple charges, including larceny and several counts of receiving stolen property, according to police. It's unclear if he has an attorney or when he will be arraigned.

A neighbor told police they saw someone steal a package from a nearby home on Tuesday, and was able to provide a description of the suspect, the vehicle and the license plate number to dispatchers.

Eventually, an officer saw Gunter's vehicle, which matched the caller's description, and an investigation revealed that he had packages in his car that did not belong to him.

Gunter was arrested and taken to police headquarters. Investigators received consent to search his Jefferson Drive home, where they found more packages that are believed to have been stolen.

Norwood police said some officers are spending Wednesday "traveling around town in their black and white sleighs, playing Santa" in order to return the stolen items.
