An Orange Line shuttle driver was attacked by a group of kids at the Jackson Square MBTA station in Boston Thursday, MBTA Transit Police confirmed.

Police said it happened around 5:30 p.m. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The victim's condition was not immediately clear.

Riders told NBC10 Boston they had braced for a nightmare when the temporary shuttles were brought in, but had found just the opposite, with no major issues during their commutes.

"I'm honestly surprised. I can't even believe something like that would happen," said Orange Line rider Mohammed Hassan. "I would've never thought a driver would be assaulted right there in the bus. Yeah, it's kind of wild."

Authorities say the attack is under investigation.
