What to Know
- New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung has been indicted for allegedly possessing cocaine in New Hampshire on August 8.
- The Patriots said in a statement the team would "not be commenting while (Chung's) judicial proceedings take place."
- Chung is set to be arraigned in Belknap County Superior Court in Laconia next Wednesday.
It was a typical Patriots pre-season game at Gillette Stadium Thursday. There was food, music, and pickup games in the parking lot, but the tailgating banter turned to safety Patrick Chung facing a charge for felony cocaine possession.
Fans had a lot of strong opinions after Chung was indicted on the drug charge.
"I didn’t expect that from him, because he's really the leader," said one Pats fan.
Many are trying to make sense of the little information that’s come out.
"It's disappointing and I'm really hoping it's not true. Really hoping that he gets cleared and he can return back to the team and play with them as usual. He's a great player, and I really hope that's not the case," said Crystal Pharms.
The charge stems from when police were called to Chung's lakeside home in Meredith, New Hampshire, on or around June 25.
Police haven't confirmed a break-in, only that they responded to Chung's New Hampshire house for an "incident."
"I mean, people make mistakes, so I think Bill is probably going to handle it accordingly," said Tyrese Joseph.
Patriots fans are hoping this latest controversy is resolved fast, and they hope Chung, who was a captain last year, is on the field soon.
Right now, he's rehabbing a broken arm.
