Police: Dogs Attack Smaller Dog, Owner Then Flees Scene

A smaller dog lost its eye after two larger dogs attacked it Saturday morning; the woman who was with the larger dogs then fled the scene with her dogs

Marcus the Shih Tzu is back home in Peabody, Massachusetts, a lot quieter than he usually is after losing an eye over the weekend.

"When he turned to walk into the house, that's when I saw the eye socket ripped out and blood all over his face," said Jason Simmonds, the dog's owner.

The 7-year-old was in his yard behind a fence, barking near the small opening at the bottom and peeking out, when a woman walked by with two dogs. One of the dogs somehow managed to maul Marcus through the opening.

The incident was captured on a neighbor's security camera.

"It looked like he had been in a war," Simmonds said. "It looked pretty gruesome."

It's unknown if one of the dogs used a paw or its teeth. The woman kept walking, even when she was confronted.

"I said, 'Excuse me, do you know your dog just mauled my dog?' and she said 'Oh no, they were just barking at each other, but I pulled them away,'" recounted Simmonds.

Simmonds says he then showed her the injury. He asked her to leave her information while he rushed to the veterinarian, but she didn't.

His owners can't believe the woman just left.

"Please just turn yourself in," said Mishelle Simmonds. "Call the police and turn yourself in."

The woman with the two dogs told a neighbor she had just moved to the area from Oklahoma and was worried she'd have to pay hefty vet bills.

Police are hoping for some solid tips to help track her down.
