Investigators returned to the scene where two people were found brutally murdered inside a Peabody, Massachusetts, home last year, and while the search stems from information gleaned during the investigation, a source said it isn't specifically connected to the previous murder case.
"They could be looking for anything," the source told NBC10 Boston.
Anything found at the scene by law enforcement, which the Essex district attorney's office said involves the FBI, state and local police, will be collected as evidence for the case currently being investigated.
The owner of the home at 13 Farm Ave. consented to Tuesday's search, according to a DA spokesperson.
"During the investigation into the double homicide that took place at this location last February, information was obtained that necessitates a further search of the property," a spokesperson for the district attorney said.
The home was where 39-year-old Wes Doughty allegedly shot and killed 37-year-old Mark Greenlaw and stabbed 40-year-old Jennifer O'Connor to death after raping her on Feb. 18. Doughty is also accused of trying to burn the home down.
Forty-five-year-old Michael Hebb was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact and one count of attempted arson.
The crime scene was reportedly so bad that investigators did not know how many bodies were inside and had to use x-ray equipment to determine the number of victims.
The Essex district attorney's office said there is no danger to the public with Tuesday's search.
