A female pedestrian suffered "very serious" injuries after she was hit by a vehicle in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Thursday night, police say.
According to police, the accident happened on 440 River St. The woman was knocked to the ground, unconscious.
The Fitchburg Police captain referred to the crash as a "very serious accident," but could not say whether the injuries were life-threatening.
The male driver who hit the woman remained on the scene and is cooperating with police, he said.
The identity of the victim and the severity of her injuries is not known at this time.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
