Man Killed in Drive-By Haverhill Shooting

Police are still searching for the suspect who shot and killed a man Thursday evening in a drive-by Haverhill, Massachusetts.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said the victim, later identified as 20-year-old Nike Colon, died after he was shot in a vehicle at the intersection of Washington Street and Shepherd Street around 5 p.m.

Colon was in the passenger seat when a person in a passing vehicle shot him, according to the DA's office. The driver took Colon to City Hall on Summer Street, where firefighters aided him.

"I was hanging out in my bedroom. I heard five shots. I looked out the window, there was a white pickup truck driving by, had blood coming down the side of the passenger door," said Bernie Chase.

Colon was taken by ambulance to Merrimac Valley Hospital, then airlifted to Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"It's horrible. I feel bad for the parents," said Shelia Stanley, who lives next door to the victim and his family. "He was really sweet. He worked at Market Basket. Had his girlfriend. He went to prom last year."

The DA's office has not yet commented on a suspect or possible motive.

Massachusetts State Police assigned to the DA's office are investigating alongside Haverhill Police.
