Phone Scam Seeking Donations for Sgt. Sean Gannon Discovered

The Yarmouth Police Department is warning people to beware of a fake donation service established for the late K9 Sgt. Sean Gannon.

In a post on the department's Facebook page, Yarmouth police announced that the Barnstable Police Department has received calls from scammers stating they are raising money for the fictitious “Sean Gannon Fund.”

"This is a SCAM," the post read. "There are NO ACTIVE PHONE SOLICITATIONS being conducted to raise money."

Phone numbers that have been flagged so far include 508-418-0669, 508-418-0431 and 508-418-0979.

There is a legitimate Go Fund Me page set up in Gannon's memory, run by Beth Ambrosini. Gannon, a K-9 officer, was killed in the line of duty on April 12 while executing a search warrant in Barnstable. The 32-year-old Gannon left behind his wife, Dara, and their three dogs. He was an eight-year veteran of the Yarmouth Police Department.

The post on Facebook also stated that the Yarmouth Police Department will accept donations in person at its headquarters, as well as mail and online donations.
