Controversial Taco Chain Expanding to Boston?

by Marc Hurwitz

A California-based Mexican restaurant with a controversial name is planning to expand to Boston.

According to a source, Pink Taco is opening a location somewhere in the Fort Point/Seaport District area of the city, with a check on the restaurant's website showing that it is indeed on its way to Boston. Once it debuts, the new location of the eatery will join one other in Los Angeles (where it is headquartered), while its website mentions that other outlets are also coming to Miami, Chicago, and Portland, Oregon.

Back in 2006, Pink Taco--which was then based in Las Vegas and had a location in Scottsdale, AZ--came under fire for its name, with people saying it was a derogatory reference to a part of the female anatomy; the Mayor of Scottsdale asked the owner to change it, while a spokesperson for the dining spot said the name of the restaurant comes from one of its menu items.

The website for Pink Taco can be found at http://www.pinktaco.com/
