Plans for Davis Square Donuts and Bagels in Somerville Back On

Last summer, we reported that plans for a new donut and bagel shop in Somerville's Davis Square fell through, but now we have learned that the plans are back on, with a new owner behind the place.

Eater Boston is reporting that Davis Square Donuts and Bagels hopes to open on Summer Street in April or May, with new owner George Dardonis apparently taking over the proposed business from Kyriakos Kouzoukas who decided not to pursue the project after thinking that the landlord might re-lease the space to what could have been a non-food related business. (Kouzoukas also runs Opa Greek Yeeros on nearby Highland Avenue.)

In the summer of 2015, we first learned that a "specialty gourmet" donut shop with "top of the line coffee" was being planned for the Davis Square space that will be home to Davis Square Donuts and Bagels. It is not yet known whether the shop will stay with the high-end donut concept; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

The address for the upcoming Davis Square Donuts and Bagels is 377 Summer Street, Somerville, MA, 02144.
