Plans for Lobstah On a Roll/478 Mass. Ave. to Come to Arlington Have Fallen Through

by Marc Hurwitz

One day after announcing that a restaurant known for its enormous lobster rolls was expanding to the North Shore, we have learned that a planned dining spot in the northwest suburbs under the same ownership will not be happening after all.

According to a Twitter post from @dancallahan, the people behind Lobstah on a Roll in Boston will not be opening a new restaurant in Arlington that was either to be called Lobstah On a Roll or 478 Mass. Ave., with a message sent to us by the place confirming that plans have indeed fallen through. As reported yesterday, a location of Lobstah On a Roll will be coming to Salem, with that eatery possibly debuting sometime in March or April.

Plans for Lobstah On a Roll/478 Mass. Ave. to come to Arlington first came about in September of 2017, with the restaurant looking to open in the old Elton's Roast Beef & Pizza space in the center of town. It was never known for sure what the exact name would be (and it was once billing itself as "the biggest little restaurant in America"), as we heard reports of it being 478 Mass. Ave., then Lobstah On a Roll, then 478 Mass. Ave. once again. (A location of Lobstah On a Roll did open in Boston's South End in November of 2017, with that spot featuring soups, sandwiches, and three sizes of lobster rolls, including one that is nearly two feet long.)
