Mother Accused of Stabbing 12-Year-Old Son

A Massachusetts mother is facing charges after allegedly trying to stab her 12-year-old son to death with a knife.

Plymouth police said officers responded to a disturbance report at 420 Little Sandy Pond Rd. around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Arriving officers found the boy with a superficial wound to his neck and his 11-year-old sister who was unharmed.

Police said the children's mother, identified later Wednesday as 43-year-old Jean Rezac, had locked herself in the bathroom, and that responding officers had to knock the door down. They found her inside a tub filled with water, and what appeared to be self-inflicted knife wounds to her neck and chest.

The boy was transported to a Boston-area hospital as a precaution, and his mother was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth to be evaluated for mental health issues. She was later taken to a Boston hospital for treatment.

Rezac was arrested. When her medical condition makes it possible, she will be arraigned on charges of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Neighbor Roy Zahreciyan said the residents of the home are a couple with two children. He said they have lived there for about four or five years.

"This morning, I heard sirens going back and forth quite a bit," he said. "I thought they just went right by. I came out here and saw police cars."

Police did not disclose a motive.
