Former High School Coach Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Lure Underage Girl Online

A former softball coach at a Massachusetts prep school was arrested Monday for allegedly trying to set up a meeting online with someone he believed to be a child for the purposes of sexual contact.

Michael Soby, 59, of Pelham, New Hampshire, is facing a felony charge for certain uses of computer services prohibited.

Soby was hired as a softball coach at Lexington Christian Academy last March, but the school said his contract has not been renewed for next season. School officials would not say if he was let go as a result of this arrest and declined further comment.

Nashua police said Soby was arrested in their city following an investigation in which he attempted to set up a meeting with a person he believed to be a child regarding sexual contact between them using a social media site. They did not say what site he used.

Soby was arrested Monday afternoon after he traveled to Nashua to meet the person he had been communicating with.

He was released on $500 cash bail pending his arraignment on Oct. 18. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
