Police ID 3 Kids In Lowell School Playground BB Gun Shooting

Police didn't say what they believed sparked the shooting, in which five children total were hit and two sent to the hospital

Three boys have been identified in a BB gun shooting on a Lowell, Massachusetts, playground Thursday that sent two children to the hospital, police said Friday.

Two of the boys had shot "indiscriminately" at children on the Greenhalge Elementary School playground early Thursday afternoon, Lowell police said.

They said that a 12-year-old and two 11-year-old boys were involved in the shooting. The older boy will be brought to Lowell Juvenile Court in connection with the shooting, but under Massachusetts state law, the two 11-year-olds cannot be charged, according to police.

Police didn't say what they believed sparked the shooting, in which five children total were hit and two sent to the hospital.

It happened during an after-school program run by Community Teamwork Inc. because Lowell Public Schools had a half day, a representative from the program said Thusday.

Lowell police didn't say in their statement how hurt the children were, beyond that two were taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
