Suspect in Deadly Stabbing Outside Chelsea Convenience Store Held on $200K

Police say one person was stabbed to death and two others were taken to the hospital with stab wounds after an early morning altercation outside a Massachusetts convenience store.

Nazeeb Gonzalez, 37, of Revere, is being held on $200,000 cash bail after his arraignment here in Chelsea District Court Thursday afternoon.

Gonzalez – who is a driver for Lyft, and soon to be a father of five – partially hid his face in court as he was arraigned on charges of manslaughter and assault with intent to murder in the early morning stabbing death of a 23-year-old Everett man.

Investigators say around 3 a.m. a fight broke out between Gonzalez – who was in one car with his boss – and three men in another car – in the parking lot of a Chelsea Tedeschi’s on Broadway and Stockton Street.

Three men were stabbed – including Gonzalez, and the unnamed victim who died, as well as a 34-year-old Chelsea man, who is expected to survive.

Police located Gonzalez about a block away from the stabbing and brought him to the hospital in custody.

Gonzalez’s defense attorney argued that three men in the other car attacked him and he was acting in self-defense.

But the prosecutor said surveillance video and Gonzalez’s own taped statement to police contradicts that.

The prosecutor said Gonzalez had a lengthy criminal record.

If Gonzalez posts that bail he would be put on a GPS monitoring bracelet.

He’s due back in court Oct. 5.

Gonzalez's attorney says that in addition to Lyft, he drives for Uber. However, Uber denies having any record of Gonzalez working there in the last two years.
