Police K9 Finds Children Trapped in Underground Bunker

The kids had gone exploring in the area, entered the bunker and got trapped inside when the wind blew the door shut, police said

A Lunenburg Police Department K9 found children who had been trapped in an underground bunker on Friday.

According to police, they were dispatched to Devens, Massachusetts, to assist in locating a group of kids who were trapped inside an underground bunker somewhere in the area of Mirror Lake.

The kids had gone exploring in the area, entered the bunker and got trapped inside when the wind blew the door shut, police said.

The kids were able to reach their arm far enough out of an air vent to get cell phone reception and call for help. They were unsure exactly where they were, but dispatchers were able to get enough information to narrow down the search area.

When officers arrived on scene, they brought Jerry, a police K9, near the kids's vehicle. Jerry tracked across the street, alongside the road, through the woods and to a buried bunker approximately half a mile from the starting point.

Officers were able to force open the door, freeing the kids from the bunker.

Police say the kids were unhurt and sent home.

According to police, the kids were reportedly trapped for an hour and a half.
