Police Officer Shot in Vest in Providence

A teenager was arrested after allegedly shooting a police officer in the vest in Providence, Rhode Island.

According to NBC affiliate WJAR, the police officer is doing OK and is being treated at an area hospital after being shot near the intersection of Douglas Avenue and Admiral Street. The gunfire hit the officer's bulletproof vest.

The station reports that a 19-year-old Providence man known to police allegedly fired several rounds at the officer. He was out on bail after being arrested on a gun charge in May.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was taken into custody.
