5-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Being Hit by SUV in Worcester

A 5-year-old girl is in critical condition after she and her mother were struck by an SUV in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Monday morning.

Worcester police said they were dispatched to the area of 91 Stafford St. around 9:36 a.m. for a pedestrian accident.

When police arrived, firefighters were already on scene assisting the young girl, who was unconscious. The girl's mother had also been hit and was conscious but could not move.

The child was taken by ambulance to an area hospital and is in critical condition, police said. The mother also remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the mother and daughter were attempting to cross Stafford Street when they were struck by a black SUV that was headed north.

The driver of the SUV stopped and witnesses assisted the victims until first responders arrived at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
