Police ID Vehicle of Interest in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Taunton

Authorities believe the vehicle that struck an 85-year-old man was a blue or dark colored GMC Sierra

Images of a vehicle of interest were released Thursday in hopes of finding the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run Wednesday evening in Taunton, Massachusetts.

Police responded to Middleborough Avenue near Center Street at about 5:30 p.m. where they found the victim, Jose Ferreira of Taunton, lying in the road.

Ferreira was taken to Morton Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office said in a statement.

Police released images from surveillance video taken from a nearby store that show a blue or otherwise dark-colored pickup truck, believed to be a GMC Sierra.

Authorities are looking to speak to the driver in connection with the incident.

A witness account of a small gray SUV was proven to not be credible, according to the district attorney's office.

Anyone with information on the crash or vehicle of interest is urged to contact Massachusetts State Trooper Brock Morrissette at 508-961-1904 or the Taunton Police’s detective line at 508-823-5000.
