Police: Stoughton 6th Grader Used Racial Slurs, Threatened Classmates

A Massachusetts sixth grader is accused of using racial slurs and threatening fellow students at a dance.

Police say a student at O'Donnell Middle School in Stoughton yelled the slur at a group of black students and brandished a plastic knife at them during a sixth grade dance.

School administrators and a school resource officer intervened, and the Stoughton Public School District is investigating in cooperation with police in the town.

"The O'Donnell Middle School embraces the diversity of our school community in a myriad of ways," Principal Matthew Colantonio said in a statement. "With the challenges that now face our society, this work has taken on a even greater sense of urgency."

Police did not say whether charges would be filed against the child.
