2 Chances for Snow This Weekend

Old Man Winter still has an icy grip on New England. Highs only managed to get to the mid-20s thanks to a numbing airmass in the mid and upper levels. Our only saving grace has been the strong March sun.

If we were in mid-January, our high might only have managed to make it to the mid-and-upper 10s!

The thaw starts on Friday and carries through the weekend. It’s a slow burn, so we’re not expecting a huge leap to the 50s – yet. On the journey to milder temps, we have a close brush with a weather system Friday night.

The most aggressive guidance heaves the threat for snow as far north as the Mass. Pike. I’m not ready to clamp down on that just yet, as many of the other items, we’re looking at how the snow harmlessly moving south of the Vineyard and Nantucket.

In any event, Saturday promises to be quiet ahead of a messy storm on Sunday. The mess could be in the form of wet snow and mix before the rain takes over. Northwest of I-495, the cold could hang on for the entire event, causing lots of slippery roads and holding the temps in the 30s.

Elsewhere, 40s are in play, but you may have to wait until the late evening for them to weasel in.

Next week has a bonafide spring feel to it as the pattern shifts and the southerly winds take charge. We have several days with the potential to hit 50 or above. Won’t be long before the peepers are singing!
