Primary Battle Between Michael Capuano and Ayanna Pressley Heats Up

Rep. Mike Capuano and his challenger, Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley, were out Tuesday evening greeting voters, with just one week until the Massachusetts primary election.

"This is the most diverse district, and it is the most unequal," said Pressley. "And I want to do something about it."

The race to represent the 7th Congressional District is entering the final stretch.

The district includes much of Boston, parts of Cambridge and Milton, and several other communities.

"I have a long, accomplished record of not just voting the right way, but also working the system for the benefit of the district the right way," said Capuano, who spoke with supporters in Brighton as they headed out to canvass near Oak Square.

Both candidates acknowledge they come from similar viewpoints on most issues.

"What I bring to the table is enthusiasm, energy," said Capuano. "I believe, a record that is second to none."

"I'm running because these times require, and this district deserves, bold, visionary, activist leadership," said Pressley, who spoke to voters outside the Park Street MBTA station.

Congressman Joe Kennedy III was on hand Tuesday as a new endorsement for his colleague, something that doesn't faze Pressley.

"Endorsements don't win races," said Pressley. "This is going to come down to sweat equity."
