Collector Ron Clark had owned the map for 40 years. Where'd he get it? "(F)rom a former employee who'd been friends with Walt Disney," reveals the AP. The map was created to help secure funding for the still-a-dream theme park, a project led by Walt's brother Roy Disney.

Disneyland Resort today is a vast stretch of lands, attractions, restaurants, shops, and gardens. But it once fit on a tri-fold poster board measuring 3 1/2 feet by 5 1/2 feet. As for Disneyland's big opening day? It's pretty much an official Southern California holiday, at least to thousands of fans: July 17, 1955, less than two years after the map's weekend-long creation.
