Red Sox Have Better Odds Than Nationals to Win 2020 World Series

With so much uncertainty looming this winter, it's somewhat surprising to see the Red Sox favored over the Nats and even crack the top five

The Boston Red Sox no longer are defending World Series champions as the Washington Nationals earned the Commissioner's Trophy on Wednesday night.

But even after a terribly disappointing season for Boston, Vegas currently likes its odds to win the 2020 World Series title more than Washington's.

The Red Sox open at +1000 betting odds to be next year's champs while the Nationals trail them at +1400. The 2019 runner-up Houston Astros begin the offseason as +400 favorites.

With so much uncertainty looming this winter, it's somewhat surprising to see the Red Sox favored over the Nats and even crack the top five. Whether or not J.D. Martinez decides to exercise his player option is a huge factor, along with what the team decides to with their superstar right fielder Mookie Betts. The current state of the starting rotation doesn't do much to inspire confidence, either.

The Nationals, however, have some concerns of their own heading into the offseason. World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg can choose to opt out of his contract and test free agency, and star third baseman Anthony Rendon is set to be one of the most coveted unrestricted free agents on the market.

Needless to say, these odds will change quite a bit over these next few months.
