Much like the Red Sox season, David Price's year is spiraling downhill - quickly.
The Sox placed Price on the 10-day injured list Thursday afternoon after an MRI on his left wrist revealed a TFCC cyst, which was treated with a cortisone shot. A left wrist injury is nothing new for Price, who dealt with carpal tunnel syndrome and circulation issues last year, though he insisted at the time that playing too much Fortnite had nothing to do with it.
Price had been cruising this season, but he's been roughed up over his last four outings. The downturn has coincided since his feud with Dennis Eckersley was stirred back up after a Boston Globe profile of Eck, followed by Price's... let's call them less-than-charitable words about the team broadcaster.
How bad has it been for Price since then? He's allowed 30 hits and 20 runs over 17 innings - that's a 10.59 ERA. Opposing hitters have been teeing off, with 7 home runs, a batting average of .375 and an OPS of 1.200. Price has only made it out of the fifth inning once over his last outings, and the Sox have lost each of those games.
That's a far cry from the pitcher who had a 7-2 record and a 3.16 ERA before this stretch.

The Sox have recelled Hector Velazquez to take Price's spot on the roster. That should be little comfort for Sox fans, since he's posted a 5.67 ERA in 24 big-league appearances this season.
