Residents Protest Plan to Have Archers Kill 20 Deer on NH's New Castle Island

Nearly 2,000 residents have allegedly signed a petition opposing a plan proposed by managers of the Wentworth by the Sea condo to stop deer from eating private gardens

Some New Hampshire residents are protesting a plan to recruit archers to kill as many as 20 deer on New Castle Island.

News outlets are reporting that nearly 2,000 residents have signed a petition opposing the plan proposed by condo managers of Wentworth by the Sea to stop deer from eating private gardens.

Residents estimate there are about 24 deer total on the island.

They say they like the animals and don't want them killed.

The Portsmouth Herald reports that some residents say the plan is not a hunt but "a kill" because the archers will take aim from tree stands while the deer feed.

The condo association hasn't responded to requests for comment.
