Restaurant May Open in Former Masonic Temple in Quincy

Last summer, we reported that a restaurant opened within a Masonic Temple in downtown Boston. Now we have learned that a dining spot may be coming to a space south of the city that used to be home to another Masonic Temple.

According to an article in Wicked Local, FoxRock Properties is looking to open a new restaurant in the former Masonic Temple on Hancock Street in downtown Quincy, with the company keeping the facade of the historic structure intact. The post says that the plan is to have a lounge on the first floor, a dining section on the second floor, a convention room on the top floor, and a courtyard area behind the building. It is not yet known exactly what kind of restaurant might open in the space, nor is it known who might run it (or when it could open), so keep checking back for updates. (Ward 1 councilor David McCarthy will have a meeting that looks into the plans on Wednesday, April 18.)

The old Masonic Lodge building, which was constructed in 1926, suffered major damage in a fire in 2013 and has been shuttered ever since.

A restaurant called Explorateur opened within the Masonic Temple at Boylston Street and Tremont Street by Boston Common last August; that dining spot is run by Big Night Entertainment Group which leases the space, with the building being shared by the restaurant and the Masons (who own the building).
