Mass. State Police: Man Killed in Collision With Dump Truck on Route 1

Massachusetts State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a dump truck and a car on Route 1 in Rowley on Friday morning.

Police said they received several 911 calls about a crash at the intersection of Route 1 and Central Street around 8:15 a.m. on Friday. When they arrived, officers discovered that a large, 10-wheel dump truck and a Toyota Prius had collided.

The 24-year-old driver of the Prius, who was the only one in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the victim, who was from Dedham, has not been released pending notification of next of kin. His vehicle appeared to be a livery car.

Police said the driver of the dump truck was not hurt. He remained at the scene.

Traffic was shut down in both directions for several hours while authorities conducted an investigation and the scene was cleared. The area reopened around noon.

The crash remains under investigation by the Rowley Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
