Husband Allegedly Stabs, Kills Wife in Roxbury

43-year-old Valdir Chaves is facing a murder charge in stabbing death of his 38-year-old wife Dora Chaves

A Roxbury mother was fatally stabbed in the middle of the day Sunday and her husband is facing a murder charge in what officials are calling an apparent case of domestic violence.

A 911 call came in around 12:20 p.m. for a stabbing at a Clarence Street apartment in Boston's Roxbury neighbhorhood, police officials say.

The suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Valdir Chaves, was on scene when police responded and he was immediately placed under arrest, Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said.

The victim, later identified as 38-year-old Dora Chaves, was taken to a local hospital with multiple stab wounds where she later died from her injuries.

Family and friends tell NBC10 Boston that the couple had been married for years and had two young boys.

Augusto Pina, who knew both the victim and suspect said, “I don’t know, it’s very sad, very sad to lose somebody – she was very nice, very nice.”

Investigators are now trying to determine exactly what led to this violent incident.

Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins said, “Today, we have a family that is going to be deeply impacted by what happened here, and I really hope that we’re going to be speaking a lot more about domestic violence and the work we have to do to try to end it.”

Valdir Chaves is expected to be arraigned on murder charges Monday. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
