Second Vehicle Involved in Cambridge Gunfire Exchange Sought

Bullets flew in Cambridge on Thursday after two vehicles were involved in a shootout during broad daylight

Police are searching for the driver of a car who was allegedly involved in a shootout on the streets of Cambridge, Massachusetts in broad daylight.

Police responded to reports of gunshots at 2:35 p.m. Thursday in the area of Sidney and Chestnut streets. The shooting began near Chestnut and Brookline streets when two vehicles exchanged gunfire.

The shootout ended near Cambridgeside Galleria after police surrounded one of the involved vehicles. 

Ladjuan Guichard, 20, of Roslindale, was arrested in connection to the shooting near the area of Binney Street and Lane Boulevard, according to police. Officials said a firearm was recovered off Memorial Drive and approximately 12 shots were fired in total.

Guichard's was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and carrying a firearm without a license.

The second person in Guichard's vehicle, 23-year-old Joekeem Nelson of Cambridge, was taken to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. He was charged with armed assault to murder, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.

Both Guichard and Nelson were held without bail at their arraignments on Friday. They are due back in court for a hearing on Dec. 7. It is not clear if either men have attorneys.

Authorities are continuing their investigation as they search for the second vehicle involved. They are seeking the public's help in providing additional information that may offer insight on the individual or individuals who were in the vehicle.
