One person was killed in a 2-vehicle accident on the Massachusetts Turnpike on Wednesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at about 2 p.m. on the eastbound side of the turnpike in Boston, just west of Exit 18, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The occupants of a Chevrolet pickup truck stopped to secure a trailer load and were outside the truck when a BMW driven by a 19-year-old Revere man hit the rear end of the trailer, police said.
Authorities have identified the deceased victim as 20-year-old Everett resident Igor Alves. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 25-year-old Everett man, was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital to be treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the BMW was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was also treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation into the crash remains underway.
