A total of five great white sharks were spotted off Massachusetts beaches Sunday.
In Duxbury, a shark was seen not far from the coast eating a dead whale. The local beach was closed to swimming for a time Sunday.
Meanwhile, on Cape Cod, two white sharks were seen off Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro; one was seen two miles south of Nauset Public Beach; and another shark, estimated to be 9-10 feet long, was seen by lifeguards at White Crest Beach in Wellfleet. The sightings caused local beaches to close to swimming for a time.
These five sightings came on the last unofficial weekend of the summer; and it was a fitting cap to a season marked by dozens of shark sightings off the coast of Massachusetts.
