Man Arrested for String of Vandalism in Sharon

Police in Sharon, Massachusetts have arrested a man in connection with a string of vandalism at the town's Eruv, an important landmark in the Jewish community.

Yerachmiel E Taube, 28, of Sharon, was arrested Saturday and is being charged with malicious destruction of property, destruction to a religious organization, interference with civil rights, and disorderly conduct.

Sharon's Eruv had been repeatedly vandalized over the past few weeks. Lines were cut, and poles were destroyed.

The vandalism happened along the Massapoag trail between Ames Street and Billings Street, and Billings Street and Rob's Lane.

An Eruv is a series of poles and string that mark the boundary of the Jewish community for the purpose of carrying items on the Sabbath. More than 40 volunteers work to maintain Sharon's Eruv on a weekly basis.

The Sharon Eruv Society had offered a reward for information leading to the prevention of this vandalism.

Taube will be arraigned in Stoughton District Court on Monday morning.
