‘She's Top Notch': Danvers Celebrates Hometown Hero Meghan Duggan After US Hockey Win

As if two silver medals weren't impressive enough, Massachusetts native Meghan Duggan's third trip to the Olympics scored her a gold medal with the U.S. women's Olympic hockey team. Her hometown of Danvers could not be more proud.

Osborn Tavern in Danvers stayed open late so people could watch the game.

"Megs is awesome," said Brian Marshall, a longtime friend of the Duggan family. "She's, like, the all-American girl, and we've known her our whole lives. And she's top notch."

The game was a nail-biter until the very end against their rivalry, Canada, ending with a dramatic shootout.

"The shootout was wild. I was banging tables. I was like, 'This has got to happen this has to happen.' And fate had it. It was great," said Marshall.

Meghan's father, Bob Duggan, was interviewed from South Korea after the game. He said he was utterly proud of his daughter for accomplishing something she had been working toward her whole life.

It's a winning moment that meant the world to Meghan Duggan, and a world away in Danvers, the win had a ripple effect for all those watching their hometown hero.

"Just following her journey is absolutely amzing. She's such a great role model for all the kids here," said Desiree Wynott.
