A Level 3 sex offender in Massachusetts is facing child pornography charges following an investigation into a purchase he made online.
Sean McClure, 48, of Shirley, was arrested Thursday on charges of possession of child pornography and distribution of obscene matter.
Authorities said an investigation by the State Police Cyber Crime Unit began when an e-commerce corporation alerted them that McClure had purchased a "love doll," or sex toy, that resembles a child.
According to the Cyber Crime Unit, the purchase of such an item violates the company's user agreement and terms of service.
Through the course of the investigation, authorities executed a search of McClure's home in Shirley with the help of Shirley police and special agents from Homeland Security, where numerous images believed to be child pornography were discovered.
McClure is being held on $20,000 bail pending his arraignment Friday in Ayer District Court.
It's unclear if he has an attorney.
