A 46-year-old man was shot to death in his apartment in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood on Thursday night.

The victim was shot after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, and rushed to a local hospital, police said.

Police were seen going in and out of the basement of a brick building on Woodrow Avenue early Friday morning.

The victim was identified by his family Friday as Victor Lopez. They said he was tied up and shot. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

He had reportedly lived in the basement unit for about six years. A roommate apparently moved out last week.

Lopez's ex-wife said her former husband was on the phone with his brother in the Dominican Republic, but the conversation ended abruptly after there was a knock at his door. A short time later, a 911 call brought police to the scene.

He leaves behind two children, ages 12 and 18, and was preparing to move back to the Dominican Republic.

Lopez's death is one of three homicides in the city in the last week. Police say the cases are not related.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story said that the shooting was in Mattapan. The incident occurred in Dorchester near the Mattapan neighborhood. That has been updated.
