15-Year-Old Boy in Critical Condition After Being Shot by Friend

Police in Worcester, Massachusetts, confirm a shooting occurred Tuesday night.

A 15-year-old Massachusetts teen is in critical condition after police say he was shot by a friend outside his Worcester apartment doorway.

Worcester Police say officers responded to a report of a shooting at a Hamilton Street apartment just before 10 p.m. Tuesday evening.

According to investigators, several family members were home when 20-year-old Gary Goyette knocked on the apartment door and asked to speak to the teen. The two friends stepped out into the hallway and moments later Goyette opened fire, witnesses say.

Family members found the injured teen lying on the floor. Goyette had fled the scene.

Emergency medical personnel treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital. He was later airlifted to a Boston medical facility in critical condition but Police say he is expected to survive.

Goyette was arrested at his home and charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feat of a dwelling, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with the intent to murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, carrying a loaded firearm without an LTC and carrying a firearm without an LTC.

Goyette was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Central District Court. It wasn't immediately clear if he has a lawyer.
