A student shot outside of a high school in Providence, Rhode Island, has died from his injuries.
According to WJAR-TV police responded to a call of shots fired at about 2 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Fricker and Westminister streets. Nearby are the Providence Career and Technical Academy, Classical High School, and Central High School.
Police told WJAR that the victim was a 15-year-old boy at one of the nearby schools who had been found lying near a sign.
The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Providence Police Col. Hugh Clements said the shooting was "a disturbance, a fight that leads to gunshots."
Police said they had been searching for two suspects who fled the scene. One person of interest is in custody.
After the shooting, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued a statement saying "there is too much gun violence".
