Somerville, Mass. Officials to Argue Against Wynn Casino Permit

Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone has argued the $1.7 billion casino project in Everett would have a negative impact on the environment

Massachusetts officials will hear new arguments Thursday in the battle to build a casino in Everett, as the city of Somerville appeals Wynn Casino's water-front permit.

Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone has argued the $1.7 billion casino project in Everett would have a negative impact on the environment.

At the hearing in front of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, attorneys for Somerville plan to make the case that the environmental permit was issued improperly.

Construction on Wynn Boston Harbor has been halted until the appeal gets worked out.

Both sides are set to present their case Thursday, but a decision isn't likely for another month.
