Police Departments Around New England React to Somerville Officer's Death

Police departments around New England are reacting to the death of a Massachusetts police officer, who passed away late Monday night following a multi-vehicle crash on Sunday morning.

Somerville police officer Louis Remigio, 55, was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle on I-95 southbound in North Hampton when police say 18-year-old Michael Ricci crossed the median and hit him.

He died at Portsmouth Regional Hospital surrounded by family and friends, according to police.

Law enforcement departments expressed their condolences Tuesday morning after the news of Remigio's passing broke.

A 30-year veteran of the Somerville Police Department, Remigio was a single father of two girls following his wife's death last year.

Ricci, a Burlington, Massachusetts, resident, was bailed out of a New Hampshire jail Monday afternoon on a felony reckless conduct charge. Authorities say additional charges are pending as their investigation continues.

He's due in Rockingham Superior Court on Oct. 20. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
