A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was stabbed Friday morning just steps away from the entrance of Boston's City Hall Plaza.
The stabbing was reported at about 5 a.m. near the southwest corner of City Hall Plaza and the victim was taken to an area hospital, according to Boston EMS. Officials said the 33-year-old man has undergone surgery.
Boston police said the stabbing stemmed from a fight between the victim and assailant. The person responsible for the incident remains on the loose.
A number of evidence markers were placed in a nearby alley, where bloody clothes were found. A few businesses near the scene are unable to open since investigators have blocked off the area.
The incident happened just behind the MBTA's Government Center stop.
The investigation is ongoing.
