State Trooper Rear-Ended by Alleged Drunk Driver

A Massachusetts State trooper is in the hospital after his stationary police cruiser was rear-ended.

The accident happened on Route 24 northbound at the merge with Interstate 93 northbound.

Police say the female driver, who has not been identified, was under the influence of alcohol.

The alleged drunk driver was arrested and taken to the State Police-Milton Barracks.

The trooper, who has not been identified, was positioned, with his emergency lights activated, to slow traffic approaching a crash scene.

Troopers had responded to a rollover crash on I-93 at exit 5 in Randolph at 12:12 a.m. Saturday. Six people were injured in that crash and taken to area hospitals. None of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening.

A second crash had happened shortly after at that scene between two other cars, as well. No one was injured in that crash.

The trooper's cruiser was rear-ended around 12:37 a.m., and he was transported by ambulance to Milton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No other information was immediately available.
