Storm Moves Out and Cold Moves In

Brutally Cold Conditions Arrive this Week

It was a white Christmas for most across New England, courtesy of a fast-moving storm that dumped over a foot of snow in parts of Maine.

It was a quick shot of blinding snow, but it packed a punch, slowing holiday travel for a brief time early in the day. The storm continues to pull away now, resulting in a pleasant Christmas night.

Temperatures will drop into the teens and 20s in most towns by Tuesday morning, so anything that melted during the day will re-freeze. Some untreated surfaces and roadways will become icy.

Sunshine is back on Tuesday, but it will be chilly. Temperatures barely climb and more or less hold in the teens and 20s.

From there, temperatures only drop as cold seeps out of Canada. Highs will drop a few degrees by Wednesday, and then on Thursday highs will likely only top out in the single digits and teens!

Friday will also feature lots of teens for highs, with overnight temperatures during this time dropping well below zero in some cases.

Our next storm to watch is on Friday. For now, most of that looks to stay offshore, but a separate clipper will then drive towards the coast this upcoming weekend. It may bring some snow to parts of New England. The extent of that snow depends on the exact track.

Even into New Year’s Eve and the first week of 2018, it looks colder than normal with highs in the teens and 20s.
