Dolphin Euthanized After Becoming Stuck in RI Salt Marsh

The dolphin was discovered stuck in the mud in Smith's Cove in Barrington

Aquarium officials euthanized a dolphin after it became stranded in a salt marsh in Barrington, Rhode Island on Wednesday.

The Providence Journal reports the bottlenose dolphin was discovered early Wednesday morning by a caretaker of a house overlooking Smith's Cove.

The man told the paper another dolphin had been in the cove trying to free the stuck dolphin by pushing it from the mud.

The newspaper said a team from Mystic Aquarium performed a full exam but determined that the dolphin was too sick to try and free and decided to euthanize it instead.
